Health Ministries Clinic is a safety-net clinic located in Newton, serving patients from 4 counties. We rely heavily on the volunteer efforts of 6 Family Medicine physicians from Wichita Clinic-Bethel, which is our local Wichita Clinic branch. They give us their half-day off once a month. We also have 2 retired Wichita Clinic doctors who continue to see patients here, and several other physicians will see our patients in their offices. These physicians share their time and expertise out of a desire to give to those less fortunate. Without their contributions, many of these patients would be without care.

When I joined Wichita Clinic in 1999, I only wanted to commit to a two-year contract. My wife was going to get her psychology license and then we were going to be out of here. Three children and two houses later, we’re still here. I love the town (Newton), the practice and the people I’m working with.

I just joined Wichita Clinic in February 2008. I have really enjoyed working at the Carriage Park office. Everyone there made me feel welcome the minute I walked through the door and they have continued to do so. I feel like I have a lot of support, not only from my partners and nurses, but also from the administrative and marketing staff, as well as physicians from other specialties. The benefits for my family are great. Wichita is my home, and I feel fortunate to be given the opportunity to practice alongside the dedicated group of physicians at Wichita Clinic.

After attending the annual Founders’ Award dinner with my colleagues, I felt very proud to be a part of Wichita Clinic. We have amazing doctors, skilled administrators, and dedicated people in our organization. I was amazed at how many of our physicians received special recognition during the program for being a part of this organization for 20 or more years. That says something about our unity and team spirit. It really is an honor and privilege to serve.

The most pleasant surprise for my family has been the incredible variety of things there are to do in Wichita. We didn’t realize how family oriented Wichita was before we arrived here. I’m also very pleased with the short commute time and the fact that the crime rate is lower here than in some of the larger cities where we’ve lived. I’m fortunate enough to be located in the new medical office building adjacent to the surgery center. The new facilities are beautiful, modern and very convenient.

Collaboration, multispecialty support, cutting edge technology, and sharing electronic medical records were important to me when I decided where to practice. I enjoy the collegiality with other departments and the fact that I can just pick up the phone and other physicians are available for me. They are very helpful when we’re discussing my patients and I’m impressed with that. I also wanted to practice medicine and not deal with the administrative side. Location, partners, opportunity, and the ability to have family time were the overriding reasons I chose to practice at Wichita Clinic.

Wichita Clinic’s recruitment committee was excellent – very sincere and genuine. I didn’t ever feel like I was being sold something that wouldn’t be backed up. The business professionals who support you—marketing, coding, billing—are all helpful and important to me.
The group has a history of financial stability and strong growth. Individual physicians at Wichita Clinic enjoy the reputation of having sound clinical skills and excellence in teaching among the medical students, residents, and academic community.

I did my residency in Wichita and I KNEW who I wanted to practice with. Knowing who I would work and partner with was very important to me. I could see the friendship and camaraderie that Wichita Clinic physicians enjoyed as well as their professional relationships. I was impressed with it and I’m glad to be a part of it.

Having trained at the Ohio State University and University of Michigan, and having worked in the Washington D.C. area, I am comfortable stating that this is the best area and group I have found to practice medicine at. The facilities and support are top-notch.

I left a very successful orthopaedic practice in Madison, Wisconsin (one of America’s most desirable cities in which to live) to join Wichita Clinic over 20 years ago. My wife and I have never regretted the move and have been very content living and working in Wichita. There are many opportunities to be involved in cultural affairs such as the Wichita Symphony, Chamber Music at the Barn, The Wichita Art Museum and many others. We have enjoyed being members of the Wichita Chapter of the American Institute of Wine and Food and are enjoying a renaissance of fine dining opportunities that have opened up in Wichita the past few years. Although we love visiting New York, Chicago, Washington, and San Francisco, we plan to remain here in Wichita if and when I ever retire from my position at Wichita Clinic.

Throughout my practice experience, I have had the good fortune to work with expert and dedicated doctors who were devoted to excellence and integrity. Since I joined Wichita Clinic twelve years ago, I have had the opportunity to work with the best doctors in Wichita and Newton with the assistance of a highly effective staff and great administrative support. I am deeply appreciative.
I like my job.

Wichita Clinic has been a great organization in which to grow and thrive as a physician. My father, who was a surgeon and a member of Wichita Clinic for 35 years, encouraged me to join the group after I finished my vascular surgery fellowship in 1985. When I asked him why, he said, “Because the physicians run the group, and they have always treated me fairly.” He was exactly right on both counts. I am proud to be a member of Wichita Clinic, and am starting my 23rd year of practice here.
Wichita Clinic is open to new ideas and encourages an entrepreneurial spirit in its physicians. In 2006, the vascular surgeons proposed opening a new vein center. The Executive Management Group has been very supportive in providing the necessary equipment and administrative staff. The billing and coding departments as well as marketing department have been superb in supporting us all the way from concept to implementation. The vein center will be a success due to our efforts as physicians in a small part, and due to the organization’s support in a large part.

At Wichita Clinic, we are concerned about patient care as well as the regulatory environment that affects it. As a result, we are actively involved at the local, state and national levels of government to monitor and advocate for the best possible health care system in which to practice. Our political affairs committee takes this conviction and turns it into effective, grass roots political advocacy. I've enjoyed being part of that effort for a number of years by representing Wichita Clinic on the Legislative Committee for the Medical Society of Sedgwick County.
Kevin Hoppock, MD Family Medicine Joined Wichita Clinic in 1992
I’ve practiced dermatology at Wichita Clinic since 1973 and I am very proud to be a part of this group. I have a busy practice but also a great deal of balance in my life. I enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities with family and friends including water skiing and snow skiing. I’m also involved in medical missionary work in Haiti. Through these volunteer efforts I’ve really come to appreciate the compassionate care that my colleagues have shown when treating those who are less fortunate. Why would I practice anywhere else?
Stanley Capper , MD Dermatology Joined Wichita Clinic in 1973 2007 Founders’ Award Winner
I joined Wichita Clinic because of the quality of the group. I have excellent partners that I trust and great nurses. I wanted to join a group that allowed me to focus on my patients and their care. I don’t have to worry about administrative tasks (insurance, scheduling, computer support, etc). I can spend time giving my patients individual attention. That doesn’t mean I’m unengaged with the administrative side of things. Each physician chooses how involved they want to be in the administration of their particular practice. For instance, I take an active interest in the marketing of my practice. I appreciate having some expertise available for the actual implementation of my ideas.
I had a chance to work with Wichita Clinic physicians when I was a resident and I feel fortunate to be part of this particular group. Wichita is a wonderful place to build a practice, grow you family and enjoy all the “important life stuff.” I see a lot of positive things happening in Wichita with the development downtown and I’m looking forward to the new arena.
